What is Nibble?
Welcome to Nibble, the Somerville Arts Council (SAC) initiative that celebrates culinary-cultural exchange, spurs cultural economic development & supports immigrant communities. Nibble grew out of SAC’s ArtsUnion project, which has transformed Union Square, Somerville through innovative cultural economic development work.
Nibble started with tours of Union Square’s international markets; these spawned a blog, then a book. Next we added cooking classes, then food festivals like the Ignite Festival, and next, a culinary entrepreneurship program that includes vending opportunities. Read about the overall Nibble program in this Boston Globe article from July 19, 2017. Nibble remains a multifaceted program, including public programming, the entrepreneurship program focused on our rich immigrant communities, and the Nibble restaurant.
Nibble Kitchen Restaurant is Open!
After almost a decade of Nibble programming, the great support of the City of Somerville, and a co-working grant from MassDevelopment, we have attained our goal of having our own brick-and-mortar kitchen and restaurant! Read articles about Nibble Kitchen restaurant here. Nibble Kitchen is located at Bow Market in Union Square; it features a rotating global menu, from Thursday to Sunday. The kitchen will also offer small cooking classes, demo dinner parties and there will be Nibble-led larger cultural events within Bow Market.
The Nibble website hones in our our new Nibble Kitchen restaurant, but we’re staying true to our roots! We will continue to highlight the overall international food landscape of Union Square. So expect blog posts about Union Square markets and restaurants, like this one highlighting the ingredient gochujang found at the Reliable Market. The new Nibble Kitchen also will be the meetup point for our ongoing International Market Tours of Union Square. Overall, Nibble aims to keep Union Square diverse and delicious!
