The Somerville Arts Council teams up with SomerViva, the city’s Immigrant Outreach & Services Program to bring you Festival Del Maiz y Musica Salsa! Celebrating the contributions of Latin American arts, food, and culture here in Somerville and beyond. Join us on the last day of National Hispanic Heritage Month with great performances by Latin Logic and Xuchipilli Folkloric Ballet.

Don’t know how to salsa? No problem. The Metamovements group will help us all get into the swing of dancing. And when the hunger arrives, head over to our culinary corner and enjoy chicha morada, tamales, arepas, and esquites; delicious and diverse Latin American foods featuring maiz. Know how to make tortillas? Stick around for our tortilla making food demo by our Nibble cooking star Estela Calzada.

To celebrate the multicultural identity of Somerville, join us in our “Somerville builds a Wall” exhibition. Festival goers are invited to add photos, drawings and/or write thoughts about Latino identity and contributions to our society. This wall with be a sounding board for Latino voices and a show of pride for our local Latino community.
