Our first cold snap! Not to worry. Nibble offers you a way to combat the cold: Try your hand at cooking Riz au djon djon, a warming winter dish that goes well with fish, chicken and red meat. This Haitian specialty is made with djon djon mushrooms, small black fungi that grows underneath trees in northern Haiti. Although these mushrooms are very difficult to find outside of Haiti (A Los Angeles Chowhound thread suggests you can’t find them any where in L.A., for example), you can buy dried djon djon mushrooms right here in Somerville at La Internacional, 318 Somerville Ave.

In Nibble’s latest video Haiti native Judith Laguerre shows Julia Fairclough how to makeĀ  this exotic and delicious dish.
